Coleraine chairman Colin McKendry
Coleraine chairman Colin McKendry has warmly welcomed a £400,000 financial windfall for the club through the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Grassroots Facilities Investment Fund administered by the Irish Football Association.
Crusaders and Newry City are also benefitting from a share of a £5.66 million fund aimed at boosting grassroots sports facilities.
In total 17 projects across Northern Ireland are benefitting from the funding.
The money will help construct a state-of-the-art synthetic training pitch located adjacent to The Showgrounds in Coleraine.
Coleraine’s players and youth teams will have access to top-quality facilities that will help them produce results on the pitch.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded this generous grant from the IFA/DCMS Grassroots Community Football Grant,” said McKendry.
“It is a significant milestone for Coleraine Football Club and our community.
“This investment will not only elevate our training capabilities but also strengthen our commitment to nurturing local talent.”
McKendry indicated the grant brings the total investment at The Showgrounds to an impressive £1.2 million over the last two years.
He added on the club’s website: “We have made remarkable strides in our quest to transform The Showgrounds into the North West Regional Stadium, a hub for football excellence in the region.
“The Development Committee, led by David Boyd, has been instrumental in driving forward the club’s ambitious business plan.
“Their dedication and hard work continue to steer the club toward its vision of becoming the North West Regional Stadium. With this latest grant, their vision is one step closer to realization.
