Tributes have been flooding in for former Germany defender Andreas Brehme, who passed away, aged 63, on Monday night.
The left-back won 86 caps for his national side, scoring eight times during his international career, including the decisive 85th-minute penalty to help West Germany win the 1990 World Cup final against Argentina, 1-0.
During his professional career, Brehme would enjoy spells at Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Real Zaragoza.
He would win several major honours during that time, including two Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and Kaiserslautern and a Serie A title with Inter.
The German would also enjoy success in Europe with the Italian outfit too, winning the UEFA Cup with Inter in 1991.
On Tuesday, German newspaper Bild reported that Brehme died of a cardiac arrest overnight in Munich.
The former Germany international leaves behind his partner Susanne Schaefer and two adult sons.
Schaefer said, per Sport BILD: 'It is with deep sadness that I announce on behalf of the family that my partner Andreas Brehme died suddenly and unexpectedly tonight as a result of a cardiac arrest. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time and refrain from asking questions.'
Bayern Munich also paid tribute to their former player on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, writing: 'FC Bayern are extremely saddened by the sudden passing of Andreas Brehme. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
'Andreas Brehme will forever be in our hearts, as a World Cup winner and, more importantly, as a very special person. He will forever be part of the FC Bayern family. Rest in peace, Andi!'
