Cork City have announced the signing of defender Niall Brookwell, subject to international clearance.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Liverpool, and went on to captain Newcastle United's Premier League two side. But now he is looking to kick-start his promising career on Leeside.
“I'm delighted to get it over the line and signed, and now I can't wait to start the season on Friday,” Brookwell told the club's official website.
“'I'm quite a versatile player, I play centre back but can also play right back or in the middle. I'm also aggressive player, but I love to get on the ball and play as well. From speaking to the manager, I know that the goal for the club this year is to win the league. We want to get Cork City back to where it belongs.”
City manager Tim Clancy added: "We are delighted to have Niall on board. He’s been in training with us for a number of days and also played a part in the game against Bohemians yesterday."
"He’s got a good pedigree, having been at both Liverpool and Newcastle and he’s impressed us. We wanted to add another defender to the squad and we are pleased to get the deal done."
