Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted at what could give his team the edge over Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
After Liverpool's 4-1 win over Brentford, the Reds temporarily moved five points clear at the top of the league. However, Arsenal's 5-0 victory against Burnley again reduced Liverpool's lead to just two points. While Liverpool will face Luton Town midweek, Arsenal will play Newcastle next weekend.
With only 13 games left before the league title is confirmed, every match counts. Manchester City also missed an opportunity to keep their lead in the title race with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday evening, with Arsenal now above City on points.
When asked about Arsenal's drive to keep scoring goals after their win against Burnley, Arteta emphasised the importance of goal difference in the title race against Liverpool and Man City.
«We want more and we know how important it is to be up there in the goal difference,» he said. «Every player that you bring [on], whether it is one minute or 30 minutes, the contribution they are willing to give to the team is really positive. Let's keep doing it.»
Liverpool's win over Brentford gave them a plus-35 goal difference, but Arsenal did even better against Burnley and now have a plus-36. Man City, after drawing with Chelsea, are behind both teams with a plus-31 as they get ready to play Brentford on Tuesday night.
