Cristian Romero has revealed Micky van de Ven's new nickname after Tottenham's dramatic win over Liverpool. The 22-year-old defender, who joined the Lilywhites from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer for around £43million, played a major role in securing three points against the Reds on Saturday night, keeping Mohamed Salah quiet.
Micky van de Ven has now featured seven times for Spurs in the Premier League this season, helping Ange Postecoglou's side record two clean sheets. The Netherlands Under-21 international, who penned a six-year contract upon his arrival at Tottenham, has helped the club build the early foundations to a title charge – so Romero has rewarded his efforts with a new nickname.
Following the Lilywhites' win over Liverpool, the Argentina marked the occasion with a celebratory post on Instagram, which he captioned: «This team has great spirit, great heart. always like this, all together.»
Among the thousands of Spurs supporters showing their appreciation for the Argentine in the comment section, two messages stood out in particular. One from Angel Di Maria, who commented four fire emojis, and another from Van de Ven, who called Romero 'boss'.
«Micky Mouse [two red heart emojis],» wrote Romero in response to the Dutchman's comment. Tottenham fans quickly approved the defender's nickname, with over five thousand supporters liking the Argentine's message.
Following the win over Liverpool, Postecoglou offered his verdict on the game. The Spurs boss said: «I think I've been at pains to say that I don't have a schedule I'm marking it against.
