David Moyes makes example of West Ham star for 'affecting the team' with poor discipline

West Ham boss David Moyes has publicly reprimanded midfielder Edson Alvarez for his accumulation of yellow cards, stating that he is 'affecting the team' with his frequent suspensions.

Alvarez, who has already sat out three Premier League matches this season due to suspension, will also miss West Ham's Europa League clash against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday.

Moyes has expressed concern over the Mexican international's impact on the team's performance due to his absence from key games. Alvarez recently served a two-match ban in the Premier League after receiving his 10th booking of the season in March.

Alvarez, who was brought in as a replacement for Declan Rice last summer, has amassed an astonishing 15 yellow cards across all competitions. Moyes has voiced his dissatisfaction, stating that the Hammers' star has been cautioned «too often».

«I think the intensity and the speed is probably where he's still getting used to the Premier League,» Moyes commented. «For us, we've not got such a big squad where we can afford too many people to be out.»
