Dayot Upamecano (25) is set to be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a muscular tear during Bayern Munich’s 1-0 victory over Union Berlin.
The France international pulled up in the 43rd minute of the Bundesliga fixture, clutching his left thigh. Whilst he continued until half-time, Upamecano was then replaced by Bayern Munich’s new signing Eric Dier at the half-time break. Manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that Upamecano would be out for “weeks not days.”
The German manager had expressed concern regarding Upamecano’s injury, and according to a report from the AFP, the former RB Leipzig defender has suffered a muscular tear, which will rule him out of several matches with his club. Whilst Upamecano’s injury is certainly a blow for his club, it is hoped that he won’t miss any matches with Les Bleus.
Upamecano is often deployed in Didier Deschamps’ four-man defence, and it will be hoped that he will be fit for the next international break in March, the last before EURO 2024. Les Bleus will face Germany and Chile in friendly fixtures on 23rd and 26th March.
