It could not have come in a more heartbreaking and disheartening manner for Chelsea.
After 118 minutes of gruelling, action-packed football at Wembley, Virgil van Dijk headed in what turned out to be the winner for Liverpool. Once again the Reds had too much for the Blues in a cup final. Once again Chelsea could not find a way to win at Wembley.
«They are professionals, they are very competitive and now we need to move forward, but they need to feel the pain,» Mauricio Pochettino said post-match. «We play for a trophy and we didn't get, and now it's the same. Nothing you can tell me can make me feel better.
»They need to feel the pain like us. And of course we realise we need to work more, we need to do better things, we need to improve. To compete at this level against a team that is in the last six or seven years is competing for things."
Pochettino was dejected when speaking to the media after the game, as you would expect. It was a real opportunity for the Argentine and his players to show that significant progress was being made in a long-term project that still has not been bought into fully by a lot of the club's fan base.
The Chelsea head coach and his backroom staff will be watching the 120 minutes back over the next days to see exactly where it went wrong for the Blues. With that said, football.london brings you some moments you may have missed from Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool.
