Eddie Howe issues Newcastle FFP update as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham sent warning

Eddie Howe has issued an update on Newcastle's position regarding Financial Fair Play regulations that may come as a warning to Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. The Magpies' accounts showed a cumulative loss of £114.1million over two seasons.

Howe's side have spent a huge amount on new signings over the last two-and-a-half seasons after a Saudi-led consortium completed its £300million takeover of the club in 2021. Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales has accepted that they may be forced to sell one of their best players in the summer to ensure they remain in line.

Asked if every player has a price, he answered: «Correct. If we’re going to get to where we want to get to, at times, it’s necessary to trade your players.

»It’s a counterintuitive part of the PSR system that there is an incentive to trade players if you want to reinvest," Eales added. The likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes could be put up for sale to help ease Newcastle's FFP worries — which could see interested clubs take advantage of the situation.

Howe has now provided a fresh update on Newcastle's position in regards to abiding FFP regulations. «It's a frustration for everyone connected with us, as the owners are ambitious and they'd like to help us through this patch and improve the squad,» the Magpies' boss told the media this week.

Newcastle now find themselves restricted in further spending due to FFP and the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR). Everton were docked 10 points last year for breaches of PSR in yet another warning to clubs that are walking a fine line regarding their financial position.
