Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. The Netherlands youth international is enjoying a stellar season having scored eight goals in 22 games adding four assists to the tally in addition.
The Gunners, according to the Telegraph, are keen on the player with the intention to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s striking options. Arsenal face a number of challenges for any potential deal, especially this winter.
The club faces the restrictions put in place by the Profit and Sustainability rules which have already burned the likes of Everton with a points deduction with other clubs potentially in line for scrutiny. Furthermore, the Gunners will have to pay above the reported €40million (£34.3million) release clause with suggestions that £50million would be the asking price.
The reason being is that this release clause is exclusively only accessible to the Dutchman's former club Bayern Munich. Something made very clear by the Italian side.
«It's only valid for Bayern Munich,» Bologna director Marco Di Vaio said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. He added that despite having many calls for the forward, they «don't pick up the phone».
It seems that even if Arsenal were to stump up significantly more than Bayern, they would have a challenge making contact with the Serie A club. However, there are questions about whether Zirkzee should garner such a fee.
