L’Équipe are reporting that Elye Wahi (20) wants to join Chelsea “as quickly as possible” after the Premier League club’s opening offer was rejected by Montpellier.
Amidst competition from Atletico Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, Chelsea are looking to accelerate a deal for France U21 forward Wahi, who last season scored 19 goals in Ligue 1. The London club have therefore submitted an opening offer, thought to be worth just over €27m, according to L’Équipe. However, this bid has been rejected by Montpellier. Mohamed Toubache-Ter reported yesterday that the Ligue 1 club were expecting at least €35m for the Frenchman.
Despite rejecting Chelsea’s opening offer, Montpellier are open to further negotiations. The player himself is also keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, despite interest from elsewhere. However, for his wish to become a reality, Chelsea will first have to increase their offer. It is expected that should Wahi join the Premier League side, he will be loaned out for the 2023/24 season.
