Erik ten Hag claims 'I see the Antony I used to work with at Ajax'

Erik ten Hag believes Antony is finding his confidence again as a Man United player, and echoing the star striker he was at Ajax.

The Brazilian came off the bench, replacing Rasmus Hojlund in the 71st minute, and scored a late equaliser to send their FA Cup game against Liverpool to extra time.

Amad Diallo scored in the 121st minute to secure a 4-3 AET win over Jurgen Klopp's Reds, but it only happened following Antony's low shot in the 87th minute to level the game at 2-2.

It has been a turbulent season for the 24-year-old player, but ten Hag felt that the goal would be an important moment in Antony's Manchester United career.

Ten Hag told beIN Sports: 'It's very important for him. He struggled so much. First part, he was not himself, he's responsible for that.

'And then he lost confidence, and now he has to fight back. We see through the last two weeks, he's returning.

'I see in training, I see the Antony I was used to work with at Ajax, and also used to work in the first weeks here.

'He has to fight back, and I'm sure he will do, because you've seen that goal.

'But not only in the goal. When he's going to left full-back position, he's defending very well. In certain systems, he can play from that side.

'He's not a defending player, don't get me wrong, because we have seen, he can score goals.'

After the international break, Manchester United have back-to-back games in London away to Brentford and Chelsea before another Liverpool clash on April 7.

In the FA Cup semi-finals later that month, Man United will play Championship side Coventry City after the draw was made in the moments following their late win on Sunday.
