Erling Haaland injury ‘not serious’ but Man City striker ‘in so much pain’ ahead of Premier League showdown with Liverpool
Man City have received promising news about Erling Haaland's injury ahead of their upcoming Premier League showdown with Liverpool.
There were fears over the striker's fitness after he suffered a re-occurrence of an ankle issue during the international break, but it now claimed the problem is 'not serious'.
However, Norwegian medical staff have said the striker is 'in so much pain' and will sit out Norway's clash with Scotland on Sunday.
National team doctor Ola Sand has revealed: «The injury is not serious.
»But he is in so much pain and somewhat restricted function, that the Scotland game unfortunately comes a little too early."
It appears Haaland will be given time to rest and recuperate ahead of Man City's huge encounter with title rivals Liverpool on Saturday, where Pep Guardiola will hope his leading goalscorer is fit to play.
Haaland has 17 goals in 16 games in all competitions for City this season and is leading the way in the Premier League with 13 strikes, ahead of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah with ten.
City had suffered a double injury blow ahead of that game, with key midfielder Rodri missing Spain's game against Cyprus in midweek.
The 27-year-old reported a 'discomfort' to Spain’s medical staff this week and was subsequently left out of the squad.
Rodri's presence has been key for City this season, who lost all three games in September and October when he was suspended.
