There must have been a certain degree of vindication from both player and club as Jack Harrison came in to make a long-awaited but winning debut for Everton at Aston Villa.
Back in August, just after the news came out that Harrison had headed to Finch Farm for a medical, claims emerged that Aston Villa had hijacked the deal and the player had chosen to move to the West Midlands instead. With beleaguered Blues still smarting from losing Arnaut Danjuma to Tottenham Hotspur in the 11th hour back in January after the Dutchman got off his train at Crewe and although he’d end up coming to Everton second time around this summer, nerves were suddenly jangling again.
In the end, it proved to be a false alarm with Unai Emery supposedly having not been aware that Harrison was still injured at the time but after finally making his Blues debut, the 26-year-old will have been determined to show that the best things come to those who wait now that he is back to fitness. Tucked inside somewhat compared to what we’ve seen from him in the past given that there were wing-backs, Harrison was still able to demonstrate a clever passing range as he felt his way in alongside his new team-mates.

Barely six days after Harrison signed for Everton, they suffered their 4-0 thrashing at Villa and he could have been forgiven for wondering what he’d let himself in for but another five weeks after that, things are suddenly looking much rosier for Sean Dyche’s men and he’s one of their increasing number of options.
