Everton and Liverpool could receive a major financial boost with the next cycle of television rights set to go out to tender.
The rights from the 2025/26 season will see 270 games televised live, up 70 from the previous 200, with the additional games, and the cycle to be over four years as opposed to three, which has been the norm for decades, meaning that clubs will be in line for a significant rise in the money they receive from the Premier League through both its equal share and merit payments.
The strength of the broadcasting rights deals have underpinned the financial muscle of the Premier League for a number of years, with England’s top tier competition delivering far higher revenues than Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, and France’s Ligue 1, with a differential of three to one in the case of Italy and France.
For the most recent 2022 to 2025 three-year cycle, the Premier League delivered revenues of around £10bn, with the international rights being worth more than the domestic ones for the very first time, buoyed by the £2bn deal that was struck in the North American market with NBC.
