Everton are fighting to retain Arnaut Danjuma for the rest of the season with Olympique Lyonnais trying to sign the on-loan Villarreal forward.
Danjuma was poised to join Everton on loan during the January transfer window last year but the deal was hijacked by Tottenham Hotspur. After spending the second half of the 2022/23 season in North London, the Dutch international finally made it to Goodison Park when he signed a season-long loan deal on July 23.
Although the 26-year-old has played 14 matches this term, netting twice, he has only completed three Premier League games under Sean Dyche and after being handed his first start in the competition since September 17 on Sunday against Aston Villa, Danjuma was an unused substitute for Everton’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday in their FA Cup third round replay. Footmercato journalist Santi Aouna claims that Lyon – who are third bottom of Ligue 1 in France – are confident of finalising Danjuma’s contract in the coming days.
However, the ECHO understands that Danjuma remains part of Dyche’s plans and Everton want to retain his services for the remainder of his deal. The player caused a stir last Thursday when he posted a photograph of him on Instagram sat in an aeroplane with the caption “Sky High.”
