Newry City 0 Coleraine 2
Coleraine boss Oran Kearney
Two first half goals were all Coleraine needed to see off the challenge of Newry City.
Coleraine were off to a flying start just six minutes into the game when Conor McKendry was afforded too much space some 30 yards out from goal. He tried his luck and it paid off, as he fired into the top corner beyond the outstretched arm of Conor Mitchell.
On 17 minutes Coleraine had a huge chance to make it 2-0 when Ryan McGivern handled the ball in his own box and the visitors were awarded a penalty. However, Jamie McGonigle’s spot kick was denied by Mitchell. But on the half hour mark, it was 2-0 when Jamie Glackin’s corner found Matthew Shevlin and he headed home from a yard out.
In the second half, Coleraine managed the lead well as they didn't allow for many clear cut chances, and had a couple of their own, but McGonigle was twice more denied by Mitchell. John McGovern almost claimed a consolation goal late on, but his effort was kept out by Rory Brown.
