Kieran Maguire believes Arsenal have the 'infrastructure' to become one of the most powerful Premier League clubs – on and off the pitch. In January, the Gunners announced that they secured £465million in revenue last season when they almost got their hands on the Premier League title.
While Arsenal raked in an extra £95m, it was revealed that they're still some way off – financially – from competing with Manchester City, Manchester United are Liverpool. However, the Gunners are yet to be awarded their Champions League prize money and the English top flight is still up for grabs, so there's lots of opportunity for 'significant growth'.
In an interview with Football Insider, Maguire suggested that Arsenal are well positioned to rival Europe's powerhouses in the near future. The football finance expert noted the club's location, stadium and ability to generate plenty of revenue – even without European football – as contributing factors.
«If we take a look at these figures through the lens of revenue then it is good news for Arsenal,» said Maguire. «It’s especially impressive as it was done in a year without Champions League football.
»So therefore they do have opportunities for significant growth by competing in Europe this season and under the new Swiss model next year. Manchester City’s revenue was above £700million, Manchester United’s was well above £600million and Liverpool just under £600million.
«So they’re still behind but they have the benefits of being in London with a big stadium. The infrastructure is there to take this further.»
