The death has taken place of Pat Quigley, the only Connacht person to serve as President in the FAI’s 102-year history.
The Mayo native, who was 78, served in the highest elected position of the game between 1996 and 2001, preceded by a spell as vice-president and acting President.
His first involvement as a volunteer was at Road Rangers, a former Mayo junior league club before progressing to Castlebar Celtic, the Mayo league, Connacht FA and the national association.
He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor, who died seven months ago, and is survived by his children Patricia and Shane. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days. May he rest in peace.
