Paris Saint-Germain midfield prodigy Warren Zaïre-Emery (17) has received his first-ever call-up to the France national team set-up. Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps revealed this Thursday afternoon his squad for France’s November fixtures.
Zaïre-Emery’s inclusion comes as no surprise given how the young Parisian has made his mark in Luis Enrique’s PSG. Deschamps already spoke highly of him last month, which is a very rare occurrence for a player Deschamps has not yet coached. “WZE”, who was captain of Thierry Henry’s France U21 team, will now step up to the senior squad. Should Zaïre-Emery play even a single minute with France during the upcoming international break, he would beat Eduardo Camavinga’s record to become the youngest France national team player since 1945.
Zaïre-Emery will numerically replace Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, who sustained a metatarsal fracture during El Clasico. The other notable absentee is Benjamin Pavard. The Inter Milan centre-back suffers from a patella luxation.
After a flawless qualifying campaign for the Euro 2024, which saw them win their six games, Les Bleus have already booked their place in the tournament. Now, their sole objective is to be ranked among the five best group winners in order to be seeded for the tournament’s group stage draw on Saturday, December 2, in Hamburg. France will take on Gibraltar at Nice on Saturday, November 18 before concluding their campaign against Greece, at Athens, three days later.
