Gareth Southgate has doubled down on his pledge to keep the faith in Jordan Henderson after the former Liverpool captain was booed on England duty.
Henderson left Liverpool after 12 years to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. On his first Wembley appearance with the national team since then he was jeered off the field by supporters. He has heavily criticised back in summer, when relocating to a nation that criminalises homosexuality after previously advocating for LGBTQ+ causes.
After the win over Australia on Friday evening Southgate came out in support of his stand-in captain, stating that the reaction "defies logic." Henderson meanwhile acknowledged it but issued a defiant response, committed to his job with England.
Now asked about the subject again during his latest press conference, the Three Lions' boss maintained his defence of the 33-year-old.

Asked whether the midfielder would continue to be in his plans, Southgate said: "Yes 100%. I select the players I think are the best players to represent the team and give us the best chance of winning, unless we think something isn’t appropriate.
"People might disagree with Jordan’s stance and decision but I don’t think it’s a reason to not select him. I don’t think it’s a reason to boo him.
"I do understand why people would feel Jordan's decision doesn't align with his strong support of LGBTQ+. I don't believe his values and principles have changed. I'd back him against nearly everyone in the country in terms of what he believes in.
"We’d like all the fans behind us. We’re a stronger team with the fans
