Gary Neville believes Andre Onana’s poor start has created a problem for Manchester United.

It is no secret that the 27-year-old has struggled since his big-money switch from Inter Milan. Erik ten Hag u-turned on his decision to keep David de Dea, instead deciding to splash out on a new goalkeeper.

Had United not fought back in dramatic fashion, the knives would have sharpened further on the under-pressure keeper. Scott McTominay spared Onana’s blushes but former United captain Neville admitted the goalkeeper issue is becoming a concern.

“At the moment, I don’t think the goalkeeper has settled in quickly enough,” Neville said. “He should have saved the one yesterday and that is a problem. If your goalkeeper is not settled in and there is a bit of instability around that, it does create a big problem for me.”

Neville also pessimistically predicted that Man United will not finish in the top five this season. For the first time ever, the team that finishes fifth could secure a Champions League spot based purely on their domestic league finish amid a rebrand of the elite European competition.
