Gennaro Gattuso is the latest manager linked to Olympique Lyonnais’ managerial job with the Ligue 1 club set to dismiss Laurent Blanc, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
It is no secret by now that the 1998 World Cup winner’s days are numbered in the Groupama Stadium hot seat. Lyon are expected to dismiss the former centre-back as soon as club owner John Textor finds Blanc’s replacement. The former PSG manager has overseen a winless pre-season at the head of Les Gones. Lyon are sitting bottom of the league after drawing one and losing three of their four first Ligue 1 games.
Eagle Football chief Textor reportedly held talks with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter. The English manager declined the opportunity to coach Lyon. Julen Lopetegui, who resigned from his post as Wolves head coach before the start of the Premier League season, and 2022 Europa League winner with Eintracht Frankfurt Oliver Glasner were also linked to OL’s managerial job.
This Sunday, Foot Mercato reports that 2006 World Cup winner and AC Milan talismanic holding midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has entered the race to replace Blanc. The outlet understands that Gattuso’s representative, Jorge Mendes, maintains a good working relation with Textor and that Gattuso’s entourage is set to enter into talks with the club’s board. Following managerial stints in high-profile Serie A clubs such as Milan and Napoli, the 45-year-old Gattuso has been appointed Valencia CF coach a year ago. He left the Ches by mutual consent in January this year. The Italian would reportedly be keen to continue his coaching career at Lyon after turning down approaches from Saudi Arabia this summer.
