Glentoran 2 Ballyclare Comrades 0
Glentoran manager Warren Feeney congratulates goal scorer Charlie Lindsay
Warren Feeney’s Glentoran cruised into the Semi-Finals of the Clearer Water Irish Cup following this routine win over Ballyclare Comrades at the BetMcLean Oval.
Although Stephen Small’s Championship side left east Belfast with their pride intact, the home team really hadn’t to move out of second gear to establish the victory.
It was in-form striker David Fisher who broke the deadlock on 28 minutes as Seanan Clucas sent in a great cross from the right and the former Wimbledon man got up above everyone else to power home a header.
Fisher and Clucas squandered great opportunities to put the Glens out of sight, they were thwarted by two wonder saves from Declan Breen.
But the Glens ended Ballyclare’s resistance just seconds after the interval when Johnny Russell’s long throw in caused mayhem in the Comrades defence, leaving Charlie Lindsay with the easy task of lobbing home.
