Sunderland managed to stop their losing streak against QPR on Saturday, but could not prevent the Hoops from travelling back to the capital with a point.
The match at the Stadium of Light ended in a goalless draw, putting an end to Sunderland's run of six consecutive losses in the Sky Bet Championship. The game didn't see much action from either goalkeeper. In the first half, Ilias Chair and Lucas Andersen had the best chances for the visiting team.
After the break, substitute Sinclair Armstrong posed a threat three times, but it was Chris Willock who had the best shot at scoring. However, his attempt was saved by Sunderland's goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. This draw stops Sunderland's losing streak, but they remain 12th in the table. Meanwhile, QPR are just one point above the relegation zone.
Hoops 'keeper Asmir Begovic faced a test early in the game when Adil Aouchiche curled in a cross from the left that hit the crossbar and bounced away. QPR's Chair had an early opportunity after being played through near the edge of the area, but his shot was deflected.
As the visitors settled into the game, Andersen had a great chance to score after intercepting a loose pass from Dan Ballard. However, Patterson made a quick low save. The first half was scrappy, with both teams having a few opportunities. Dan Neil tried to surprise Begovic with a bold shot from halfway down the pitch, but it landed on the net's roof.
Chair nearly scored with a curling shot around the post. Aouchiche also came close with a low shot that was deflected just wide after the break. Both QPR and Sunderland had a slow start to the second half, but the visitors started to show more promise.
