Harry Redknapp has slammed Arsenal's Ben White for turning down the chance of an England call-up. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager believes that it should be the end of the defender's international career.
White, 26, was thought to be in contention for a spot in the latest England squad ahead of friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. However, despite his good form with the Gunners, the versatile defender was not included in Gareth Southgate's squad.
The England boss explained that he had talked to Arsenal, who explained that White didn't want to be considered for the latest squad. This admission prompted a reaction from Harry Redknapp, who instructed Southgate to disregard picking White for future squads.
«I think Gareth Southgate said the door's still open, didn't he? The door should be slammed right in his mush,» Redknapp told talkSPORT, as reported by the Mirror. «He doesn't want to play for his country, he goes to the World Cup then comes home because he's not getting in the team.
»I'm sorry, you've had your opportunity. You don't want to play for England? You tell the Bobby Moores of this world who's got 100-odd caps. The Shiltons, the Beckhams, the Rooneys those people, go and tell the Billy Bonds of this world who didn't get a cap and should have done, and all those great players that you don't want to play for your country. I think it's disgusting, I can't have it."
White previously left the England squad during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for personal reasons. The defender has earned four caps for the Three Lions and has been in impressive form for Arsenal this term, being a virtual ever-present for a side that boasts the best defensive record in the Premier League.
