Pirate-themed restaurant Smugglers Cove closed this weekend to make way for sister site The Botanist.
The restaurant opened on the Albert Dock in 2013 serving classic items such as burgers, fish and their famous hanging kebabs. Smugglers Cove holds the Guinness World Record for the most varieties of rum commercially available with 151 rums on the menu, an accomplishment achieved back in 2015.
On Sunday, its parent company, The New World Trading Company, closed Smugglers Cove to rebrand as another one of its venues, The Botanist. The food and cocktail spot has locations all over the country and acts as the restaurant seen in Channel 4's First Dates series.

This is Liverpool's second Botanist venue after The New World Trading Company rebranded Liverpool ONE's former Club House restaurant last month. The New World Trading Company attempted to sell its Smugglers Cove and The Florist sites last year but the deals fell through due to complications with potential buyers.
The rebrand has garnered an overwhelming quantity of negative critiques with hundreds of past customers labelling the shift as "a huge shame for Liverpool" while others are trying to understand the decision.
Under the page's new Facebook bio, Dominique Oldham 'Jordan' said: "Smugglers Cove was a pirate-themed restaurant sat directly in the centre of a shipping dock amongst pirate ships therefore, giving it its own USP. Turning it into another floral restaurant when there’s another a short walk away makes no sense at all! You’ve just lost your USP turning it into just another flower restaurant."
