Everton need to “grow” to get the best out of Amadou Onana reckons Louis Saha who also admits he is “a bit worried” for his former club.
Saha joined Everton from Manchester United in 2008 and netted 35 goals in 115 games for the Blues, including an FA Cup final strike against Chelsea after just 25 seconds at the end of his first season. Onana, who arrived at Goodison Park in a £33.5million transfer from Lille in August 2022 was linked with a move in the opposite direction this summer.
The ECHO understands that Manchester United maintain a longstanding interest in the Belgium international but Everton believe there is still plenty of development in the 22-year-old who they reckon can become as good as – or even better – than Moises Caicedo, who joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion for a British record £115million fee in August so it would have taken serious money for the Blues to have even contemplated selling him in the last window.

This week, stats site Between the Lines calculated that Onana was first in the Premier League for Everton this season when it came to tackles (22); possession wins (62); duels won (71); fouls won (19); progressive passes (44) and shot creating actions (28). Saha, who was speaking to Paddy Power, said: “All players from the French League want to come to the Premier League. They all have a desire to compete with the best players and for Amadou Onana, he needs to have a professional approach and concentrate on improving each day so he can build his confidence up.
