Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Bukayo Saka initiated contact with Manuel Neuer for the big penalty appeal during the 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Gunners found themselves 2-1 down at the interval after Serge Gnabry and a Harry Kane penalty cancelled out Saka's opener. Leandro Trossard equalised 15 minutes from time to set up a grandstand finish at the Emirates Stadium.
Saka thought his team should have had an opportunity to win the first leg in second-half stoppage time when he collided with Neuer inside the area. However, the Swedish match official waved away the complaints and the first leg finished level.
After the match, the consensus among Arsenal fans was that their team had been robbed of a stonewall penalty. However, Wright was adamant after the final whistle that the right call was made.
Explaining his reasoning further on Wrighty's House, the 60-year-old explained: «The angle that we got, the face-on where Saka went in, he moved it with his left foot so if you move it with your left foot, you should be going off to the left. He actually, for some reason, [moved] the leg out to the right.
»His leg went out to the right, whereas I’m thinking because you’ve gone to the left, anything that’s coming to impede you then, you jump over it. So this is why it felt very strange for him to be fouled in that manner, because he should be nowhere near.
