Gonçalo Ramos (22) has not had the easiest adjustment to life at Paris Saint-Germain since signing for the club from Benfica.
The Portuguese striker was one of the first signings of the summer as he joined the club on loan with an obligation to buy for €80 million. Despite the steep investment in a player who announced himself dramatically at the 2022 World Cup, he has struggled for consistent game time under Luis Enrique.
The manager according to L’Équipe , had doubts prior to his signing about his suitability for playing in his system. Criticism particularly began to grow after Ramos was absent for the entirety of December (playing only 1 minute of game time), as his manager went with Kylian Mbappé (25) in the striker’s role over Ramos or the Portguese’s direct rival for the position, Randal Kolo Muani (25).

However, what was not known at the time , was that Ramos had been suffering from a virus that had left him hospitalised. Only in January after the forward had begun to make a return to the team was it revealed just how ill he had been.
Speaking exclusively to Record Ramos has detailed this time, “ I had a complicated month of December. I first caught a virus which then turned into a colon infection .” He continued, “ I spent 20 days bleeding and vomiting, without being able to eat, and with a very high fever. ”
The striker explained, “I had to go to the hospital four of five times, and I was administered a drip. I lost eight kilos, and during my first season in France, it didn’t help. I had to regain weight mid-season, and do a pre-season in January which wasn’t easy.”
