That was Alexis Mac Allister’s best performance in a Liverpool shirt against Bournemouth. Defenders aside, no-one really did well in the first half, except for him.
He’s a player you can rely on. He gets the ball and distributes it well. He doesn’t lose it, no silly passes. Other players weren’t doing that in the first half.
He’s reliable, he’s strong in the tackle. He actually looked like a natural holding midfielder against Bournemouth! We know it’s not his natural position, but the battles he went in for, he came out on top 90% of the time - if not 100%.

'There is a very real sense' - national media all now saying same thing about Liverpool after Bournemouth performance
It shows you that he is slowly adjusting to what he’s got to do with the experience of having to do it more and more. I thought he was man of the match. The forwards won the game, but he was brilliant.
I’ve said in this column before that I think Liverpool needed another defensive midfielder, but now I think it might be a case of putting it on hold until the end of the season.
Thiago will be back. I don’t necessarily think it’s his position, even though he can play there, but he’s an option. He should be back next month, Bajcetic too. We’ll have Endo back next month as well so we’ve actually got a full quota.
So I’ve changed my mind, I don’t see any point in signing a holding midfielder now personally. Not unless someone’s out there who is absolutely world class and you can get them at the right price.
The team aren’t doing badly with what they’ve got to be honest. They’ve been brilliant.
