Pierre Sage reflected on an epic victory for his Olympique Lyonnais side over high flyers Stade Brestois, which on a night with seven goals and two red cards, saw his early-season strugglers rise to seventh in the table placing them in contention for a European place.
It was a game that perhaps best summarised the spirit that Sage has been able to install into the team since he was appointed in late November with the mission to steady the ship while they looked for their next hiring, as they managed to secure a last-gasp winner to defeat Brest 4-3.
Sage was never meant to last beyond Christmas; Bruno Génésio, Jorge Sampaoli, and even Igor Tudor were the likely candidates to take hold of the reigns, but instead, the interim was made permanent in December. The results of this decision have been innumerable, with the club climbing up the league table and into the Coupe de France final.
