City have the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, John Stones and even Kyle Walker able to play in their newfound 3-2-4-1 formation, with Akanji proving to be a valuable player for Pep Guardiola's side in his newest experiment which has paid off handsomely over the past year. It means, however, that competition for places is rife.
Akanji has featured in eight of the 11, before being sent off against Brighton at the end of October - and with a goal on his return against Bournemouth, he’s made a real stake.

Akanji was initially withdrawn from City’s squad with illness against the Swiss outfit on Tuesday evening, though that was later to have been proven to be a back issue by Pep Guardiola.
For Akanji to be hooked just minutes before the start of the game is very much unlike him. He played in all but two of City’s 12 Champions League games last season when they won the trophy, alongside featuring in all but four of his possible games in the Premier League after joining late on in the August transfer window.
