James Garner admits that Everton’s goal shortage is becoming a ‘concern’ - but believes his side should take encouragement from moving out of the relegation zone.
The Blues moved out of the Premier League’s bottom three on Monday night courtesy of their late draw with Crystal Palace. Amadou Onana’s header cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s opener at Goodison Park.
Everton, however, have not scored a goal from open play in the Premier League since December, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal drought extended to 19 games against the Eagles. But when asked about his side’s struggles in front of goal, Garner claimed it was a collective issue.

“I think it is a concern if you are not scoring goals, as goals win games,” he said. “But it is not just the strikers who we should be relying on to score goals.
“We can’t just be relying on the strikers to score; we need to be chipping in from all places. But it is a bit of a concern if we are not putting the ball in the back of the net when we should be.”
However, despite the frustration around Goodison following the full-time whistle, the point the Blues did pick up moved them out of the relegation zone. However, Luton Town do have a game in hand on Sean Dyche’s side.
Everton last picked up all three points in the Premier League when they beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor back on December 16. But Garner believes the challenge is now for his side to stay above the dotted line.
“I didn’t even realise that, to be fair, but that is a big boost, especially going into next week against a tough team,” he said.
