James Maddison breaks silence after Ryan Yates incident during Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest

James Maddison has taken to social media after escaping a red card despite appearing to lash out at Ryan Yates in Nottingham Forest's defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 26-year-old fell to the floor after he felt Maddison pushed him in the stomach on the edge of Forest's penalty area. Although referee Simon Hooper did not spot the incident, VAR had a look but the Spurs midfielder was not punished.

The decision sparked a furious reaction from Forest supporters on social media, with fans outraged that Maddison was not punished. The incident was spotted during television coverage of the game and discussed at length.

Pundit Jamie Redknapp believed there was not enough in it to justify a red card. «It's not a lot. Yates is like that, he tries to get into players' faces, a bit like Gascoigne and Vinnie Jones many years ago,» he told Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, Roy Keane slammed the way Yates' fell to the floor, adding: «I worked with Yates at Forest, really nice kid, but every week somebody touches him he goes down. He goes down far too easily. For such a decent lad he needs to cut that out of his game.»

Taking to Instagram after the game, Maddison wrote: «Job done. +3 [white heart emoji].»

Speaking after the game, Yates said: «James Maddison is a good player, I know he makes them tick. It's my job to disrupt the momentum. A few decisions probably didn't go our way but we've seen the inconsistency in the Premier League this season.»
