Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was given a big honour at Ajax on Sunday but is still waiting for his first win in Dutch football after a late upset.
The Premier League and Champions League winner was made captain in just his fourth game for the Amsterdam outfit, but they were denied victory in the final moments of the match. Henderson moved from Saudi Arabia to the Netherlands in January but has had a tough time with results since then.
On Sunday, Ajax were leading 2-1 against NEC Nijmegen thanks to goals from ex-Manchester City player Carlos Borges and Brian Brobbey, who is rumoured to be a target for Manchester United. However, the away team managed to score an equaliser in extra time.

Without the services of the experienced Steven Berghuis, manager John van't Schip chose Henderson as captain because of his leadership skills on and off the pitch. But since the 33-year-old joined, Ajax have been struggling and are now fifth in the Eredivisie table after missing out on the title last season.
After winning their first three games of 2024, Van't Schip's team haven't won in four matches following Sunday's disappointment. Dutch striker Brobbey scored the opening goal for Ajax seven minutes into the game before an own goal from 17-year-old Jorrel Hato restored parity.
Henderson and his team were ahead when Borges, the Portuguese winger, scored what looked like the winning goal with only 11 minutes left to play. But Roberto Gonzalez had other ideas, as he snatched a 95th-minute equaliser that rescued a point for the visitors.
