Jorg Schmadtke has opened up on the decision to end his Liverpool contract early as he talked up the "special abilities" possessed by Jurgen Klopp.
And the Reds former sporting director has also conceded he believed the £60m buyout clause Liverpool paid to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig in July was too expensive at the time.
The Reds made Szoboszlai the fourth most expensive player of all time at Anfield when he joined from Leipzig with Schmadtke credited for getting the deal over the line before the buyout clause expired at the end of June.
Schmadtke has now revealed he had reservations over the price that was paid but accepted that judgement has since been proven wrong by the impact of the Hungary captain in his maiden term on Merseyside.

The German, whose one-year deal was cut short at the end of the January transfer window, also revealed the energy Klopp infuses his staff and players with during the day-to-day operation at the AXA Training Centre.
"I didn't observe [Klopp walking on water], but he has special abilities," Schmadtke told Die Zeit. "When he enters a room with four tired people sitting at the table, he recharges them. After a few minutes they are fit again and full of energy. It's quite amazing.
