The managerial merry-go-round has started early this year with a number of high-profile jobs set to become vacant in the summer. Alongside Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona, there is still a chance of Tottenham, Chelsea, England, Manchester United, and maybe Newcastle looking for new head coaches.
Amidst the chaos on the managerial front that has spiralled out of control in 2024 so far, one man's name keeps cropping up.Last month it was reported that Jose Mourinho, just days after being sacked by Roma, had already agreed to join Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab, whilst there were also rumours of talks with Napoli.
Not long after it was said he felt there was unfinished business at Manchester United, all the while Chelsea loomed in the background with Mauricio Pochettino coming under increasing pressure. That has somewhat been eased after a run of away performances built confidence heading into the Carabao Cup final, but it is likely not the end of fan unrest towards the manager in the long, medium, or even short term.
Mourino has been linked with returns to Chelsea in the past, not least when things go south in the middle of a season and all sense of identity and culture appears to have been lost. He has similarly been spoken of as an outsider for the Barcelona and Real Madrid jobs in months to come.
However,a new opportunity has emerged for him with the announcement that Bayern Munich will split with current manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Tuchel was appointed less than 12 months ago to replace Julian Nagelsmann mid-season, but has failed to have the same magic impact as he had at Stamford Bridge.
