On Friday morning the bombshell announcement that nobody, apart from Klopp’s inner circle and Reds owners Fenway Sports Group, landed. Klopp confirmed that after nine years at the Anfield helm he would be taking a break to try and get his energy back.
There have been few managers in English football history, and not just Premier League history, to have been so impactful on the game. To have left such an indelible mark on a club and its fans, not only buying into the culture but fully understanding and embracing it.

His departure at the end of the current season is a loss not only for Liverpool, but for the Premier League as a whole. But he leaves having restored the Reds as a major force once again, a far cry from the disjointed side he inherited when he arrived.
It is a skill to know when to quit while you’re ahead. It is something that takes not only good judgement but a significant amount of selflessness.
At the end of last season, a fifth-placed finish, a lack of success in Europe and missing out on this season’s Champions League, allied with a season that had seen technical directors depart and a rebuild required for the future, meant that confidence was low.
