Jurgen Klopp has warned Chelsea that his Liverpool side will «go for it», no matter what personnel he has available to him for Sunday's Carabao Cup final. The Reds avoided a scare at home to Luton Town on Wednesday to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool fell behind on 12 minutes at Anfield after Chiedozie Ogbene handed the Hatters a shock lead. It stayed that way for the remainder of the first-half but the Reds came out a completely different side for the second period.
Virgil van Dijk headed Liverpool level on 56 minutes to start the onslaught. Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott also scored for the Reds to put them four points clear at the summit of the table and give them great confidence ahead of Sunday afternoon's Carabao Cup final showdown with Chelsea.
Klopp had a very depleted squad available to him on Wednesday, with nine first-team players missing through injury problems. Darwin Nunez (muscle), Mohamed Salah (hamstring), Dominik Szoboszlai (hamstring), Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee), Curtis Jones (ankle), Diogo Jota (knee), Alisson (hamstring), Thiago (hamstring), Joel Matip (ACL), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) and Ben Doak (MCL) were all sidelined for the win against Luton.
«I don't even know if these boys can play again, to be honest,» Klopp said on the team he fielded against Luton. «The situation is not great, absolutely not. I'm so happy the kids came on and played. I'm so happy that I could give them that opportunity, it's nice, the boys deserve it.
»We have a lot of super important games coming up and we go day by day, we don't know. I can't say anything about it. But after Brentford I had no clue that the situation would be like what it is now.
