The 'Cules' goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has restored FC Barcelona's goalkeeping solidity. The German has now gone three consecutive matches without conceding a goal, something that has not happened since last season.
Barcelona fans were missing their first-choice goalkeeper, who was sidelined for three months with a lower back injury. The German's return to the pitch has given Barca greater defensive consistency and, as a result, neither Getafe, Athletic nor Mallorca have managed to score a single goal against the Catalans.
Pau Cubarsi has been another factor in Barca's improved defensive performance. The young centre-back made a place for himself in Xavi's starting eleven due to the numerous absentees at the back and now there is no one who can take him out: he has already played 11 games this season with the first team.
After a month of January in which the Catalan side conceded 19 goals in nine games, the 'Cules' defence seems to be showing signs of improvement. The return of Ter Stegen and the early breakthrough of Cubarsi are the main reasons why FC Barcelona have once again built a wall around their goal.
