Jurgen Klopp has called on Liverpool fans to stop urging Joe Gomez to shoot when he gets the ball.
Gomez has been a key part of the Reds' success this season, playing a number of roles in the team to help cover for injuries in his 36 appearances this campaign.
On Wednesday night, in his side's 3-0 win over Southampton in the fifth round of the FA Cup, he played in midfield in what was an injury-stricken Liverpool team, and received rave reviews for his performance.
Infamously, the 26-year-old has never scored a senior goal, failing to find the back of the net in 233 professional games for both Charlton and Liverpool and in all competitions.
It has become somewhat of a running joke that Liverpool fans are urging him to shoot, but Reds manager has requested his side's supporters put a stop to it.
'Right-back exactly the same,' Klopp said on Wednesday, speaking about Gomez's versatility. 'Conor not there, Trent obviously not there, so Joey, come on.
'Now he plays the six, aye aye aye. The way he played is absolutely crazy. Can I ask the people, as funny as it is... shoot. Leave the boy alone, one day he will shoot, he will find the moment himself.
'If he shoots from 40 yards just because the people are calling then I will really get a bit angry but what a boy, what a game. Absolutely exceptional.'
Gomez fired one shot well wide from distance in the game, with television footage showing Klopp laughing at the effort from the defender-turned-midfielder.
He has mainly enjoyed success in the full-back positions this season, covering at left back for a prolonged period of time when Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas were injured, and also at right back in the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
