Spurs fans are set to turn their backs to the pitch in the 65th minute of Saturday's Premier League match against Luton in a move backed by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust.
The north London club announced this month that they would be increasing season ticket prices for the 2024/25 campaign by six percent and also removing the concession for new senior season ticket holders aged 65 and above from the following season, while reducing the discount in stages for those seniors currently holding such tickets.
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust called the move «unacceptable» at the time and that «the changes pull the rug out from under the feet of pensioners after years of loyal support». The club claim that the number of senior season tickets held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has risen to almost four times the number at White Hart Lane and that the increase is «clearly not sustainable».
It was revealed this month that Spurs make just under £6million per game in matchday income compared to below £1million a game at their old home.
Now a supporter movement known as Save our Seniors is encouraging the Tottenham fans at Saturday's Premier League game to turn their back on the action in the 65th minute in the same way they feel the club is turning its back on its senior supporters.
The group's promotion material for the action states: «THFC is turning its back on some of its most loyal fans, the over 65s, by withdrawing senior concessions. We need to show these are not the values of our club. So we are asking everyone to turn their backs on the pitch on 65:00 for one minute.
