Eileen Gleeson has confirmed she will deliver a dossier on this campaign to the next permanent Republic of Ireland boss – but she is determined that it contains only a 100% record from the caretaker’s six Nations League outings.
Gleeson’s side finish their promotion-winning Group B1 campaign in Windsor Park tomorrow (kick-off 6pm), by seeking to repeat their opening day 3-0 drubbing of neighbours Northern Ireland at the Aviva.
And that will draw the curtain on the most successful caretaker management stint in Republic of Ireland football history, as she quests a sixth successive victory since taking the rein following the toxic departure of Vera Pauw during the summer.
“I am just focusing on the task in hand,” said the Dubliner, for once not asked did she want a full-time role she has repeatedly distanced herself from since her first day in temporary charge
“Big game, delighted to be here. I think it is a nice circle of events, started in the Aviva and ended up here in Windsor Park again with all of Ireland football.
“I am just enjoying that moment, enjoying being sitting here with Katie McCabe, and just focusing on the task in hand.”
Her captain McCabe praised her former mentor for ushering Ireland though a quite traumatic period following the euphoria of their maiden World Cup appearance.
“I mean, five wins, four clean sheets, top of the group. She has been fantastic, not just Eileen of course, but the team she has brought in around her,” said McCabe.
