Arsenal and Chelsea transfer target Kylian Mbappe is exploring the possibility of making a switch to the Premier League as a free agent in the coming months, according to a report from the Times. The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid, but is claimed to be unimpressed by their attempts to land him on a pre-contract deal this January.
That could be a moment that blows open the race to land the forward as his deal continues to dwindle into the final few months at PSG. Mbappe rejected the chance to extend the contract by an extra year last summer, meaning it expires in just six-months and leading to plenty of exit talk.
Les Parisiens set up an ultimatum of signing a new contract or leaving in the transfer window, to avoid losing out on a transfer fee, but neither followed. With January coming round quickly, teams can agree a pre-contract to land the superstar on a free transfer in the summer window.
So far though, he has explained that no agreement has been reached with any party in relation to his future as he said: «I haven’t made any decision on my future. I didn’t make a choice. Nobody talks about my situation inside the club, it’s not a topic.» That hasn't stopped the chatter outside of the club though.
Arsenal are one of the teams linked as they seem to be missing a clinical edge to their forward line over the course of the Premier League title race. The inclusion of Mbappe could add just that to the ranks, but they won't be the only team looking towards the World Cup winner.
