Kylian Mbappé (25) has often haunted his formative club. The Frenchman has scored eight in 13 games against AS Monaco for Paris Saint-Germain. He heads to the Principality to face Les Monégasques, perhaps for the final time on Friday evening.
In a season-and-a-half at Monaco, Mbappé racked up 60 appearances, scoring 27 and registering 16 assists. It is the club that provided the platform for the France captain to flourish and quickly establish himself as the most exciting prospect on the planet.
His decision to turn pro at Monaco came amidst interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG and his career trajectory since has validated that choice. It was a decision that suited all parties and one that saw Les Monégasques receive a substantial €180m fee just two years later.
However, he has often come back to haunt Monaco, regularly scoring against Les Monégasques since making the move to the Parc des Princes in 2017. However, as Les Parisiens face Monaco on Friday, it will perhaps be Mbappé’s final chance to score against his formative club.
With a summer departure looming and a move to Real Madrid strongly touted, there is a chance that he will never face Monaco again. Whilst the Monaco-Mbappé relationship was such a mutually beneficial one, the latter will have one more chance to inflict damage on the former and inch PSG closer to a third consecutive Ligue 1 title.
