Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain he will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
PSG had been hoping to persuade Mbappe to sign a new deal, with club president Nasser Al Khelaifi stating last month: "Look, I am not trying to hide anything. I want Kylian Mbappe to stay at PSG.
"He's the best player in the world and the best club for him is PSG. He is central to our project. We have done a lot of things, some have worked more than others. We have made mistakes and this is normal."
However, Mbappe has now informed PSG that he will in fact be leaving this summer. The exact terms of his departure are yet to be finalised, but the Athletic are reporting an official announcement will be made 'in the next few months' once everything is decided.
The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but the report claims that some 'influential' members of Mbappe's camp are not happy with the terms that are currently on the table.
La Liga president Javier Tebas recently claimed Real have a "55-60 per cent" chance of signing Mbappe, telling Italian media earlier this month: "I said [the chances] were around 50 per cent some weeks ago, now it's even more.
"55-60? Yes, I think so. Every day that passes and Mbappe does not sign the new contract with PSG, the percentage increases. I don't know the costs of Mbappe deal but in any case, Real have an excellent financial situation. They never did crazy things in the recent years."
