Larne 3 Newry City 0
Chris Gallagher scored his first goal in Larne colours on Friday night
A sublime goal and man of the match performance – as home debuts go Chris Gallagher couldn't have asked for more.
Gallagher struck with a great half volley from the edge of the box to break the deadlock in Larne’s 3-0 win over Newry City on Friday evening, as they kept pace in the title race.
The victory completed a perfect January as Larne made if five wins in league and cup competitions - including brings the County Antrim Shield back to Inver Park for the fourth consecutive season.
They are also now 18 games unbeaten in the Premiership as they make it clear they won't be giving up their league crown without a fight.
In their bid to do just that they brought in Gallagher during the January window and he is quickly settling into life at his new club.
“Yeah I suppose something like that can help me settle in, although I’m really known for my goals,” he said when asked if a goal on his home debut was the ideal start.
“The ball fell to me nicely on the edge of the edge of the box and thankfully I was able to catch it nicely and it’s hit the back of the net.
“It’s nice to get off the mark, but the most important thing at the end of the night was the three points.
“I think it helps you settle when you already know quite a few of the boys and used to playing against everyone else week in, week out.
“They are all top lads in the dressing room. Everyone knows what we want to achieve this season so that makes sure everyone is pushing in the same direction too.”
Gallagher struck the opening goal after just 18 minutes against Newry and the points were wrapped up with two further goals after the break.
