Pep Guardiola has been handed a double injury blow ahead of Manchester City's Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish were forced off during City's Champions League tie with Copenhagen on Tuesday night. After the match, Guardiola confirmed that Grealish suffered an injury that 'looks muscular', while Silva had to be taken off after taking a big knock to his ankle.
The City manager also confirmed that Josko Gvardiol, who was absent from training on Monday, sustained an ankle ligament injury and is expected to be out for up to three weeks. Former Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic was also unavailable and is currently 'in the process' of coming back.
His involvement in training this week will determine whether he is fit to face his former club at the Etihad. Sergio Gomez, on the other hand, was absent from Monday's training session. As a result, Guardiola named academy stars Jacob Wright and Mahamadou Susoho on the bench.
Addressing the injuries after the game, Guardiola said: «Bernardo has a big knock in his ankle. I didn’t speak to the doctor but it looks like muscular for Jack. In the last few days his mood in training sessions was much better. He was really good, he help us to play in the right tempo especially in the first leg.
»You cannot play so slow but you cannot play so fast. Against teams that are incredibly organised you have to find the right moment and play the right tempo. Jack help us a lot and hopefully he will recover quickly.
