Ange Postecoglou will be looking to close the gap on fourth-placed Aston Villa when his Tottenham Hotspur side returns to Premier League action this weekend. Spurs will face Luton Town on home soil this Saturday and can move level on points with Villa should they manage to claim all three points against their relegation-threatened opponents.
Whether or not the Lilywhites can welcome back any of their injured players remains to be seen, with four individuals currently out of action at present. One of those is defenderMicky van de Ven, who suffered a hamstring setback in the recent 4-0 win at Villa and missed the defeat away at Fulham prior to the international break.
Speaking before the game at Craven Cottage, Postecoglou expressed hope that the Dutchman could make an immediate return this weekend. «He'll miss tomorrow [vs Fulham], but with the international break, we're pretty confident he won't miss too much more,» said the Australian.
Aside from Van de Ven, Spurs' other three absentees are unlikely to be back on the pitch anytime soon. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster has not been seen since fracturing his foot in February and was ruled out for «a couple of months» by Postecoglou, ensuring he will not be available until at least April.
Elsewhere, Ryan Sessegnon had surgery on a hamstring issue at the end of last month and is expected to be on the sidelines for a period of between 10 and 12 weeks. Winger Manor Solomon recently underwent a similar procedure on his right knee after a meniscus injury, having been out of action since September.
